Auto Gaging

Advantages:
  • Less scrap
  • Modifies press brake for material
     thickness changes
  • Run good parts from different
     gauge materials
  • Or stop if wrong gauge
  • Dual sheet detection

Automation Method:

Material thickness detection is done by two analog sensors. They measure the thickness of the material. The robot then makes decisions depending on the thickness.

This is one step beyond double sheet detection because the robot can measure the actual material thickness. Then it can call up a different program in the press brake depending on the gauge or material deviations. This give true automation to mixed batch parts.

If there are two sheets then the robot can go back to the load stack and peel them apart, or set the parts to the side to allow for operator intervention. Watch the video under Loading.

Traditional Method:
Many systems do not use anything at all. They rely on the press brake not to over tonnage the tools.

Other systems can only tell if there are two pieces or just one. So if the material was off by one gauge it would allow bad parts to be formed.
